Lots of these on the market now, in all shapes and sizes and varying capacity to drain the battery overnight.

Noticed some have a small battery pack that can be installed in the glovebox, which also eliminates the ugliness of a power cable plugged into the cigarette lighter.

Anyone have any recommendations, either for or against, for ease of mounting, hiding cables around the windscreen trim, having a battery pack in the glovebox, etc.?

Thanks.

All my cars have dash cams. You can hot wire or run the cables around windscreen trim then route it under floor mat. You can even get dual front back dash cams, all of them allow you to rotate camera when you need it.

It is an important safety item to have, in my 20 years of driving experience I only had one bad encounter with jealous hater. Sometimes people don't know the behind scene work required to have nice things.

Dash cam also makes people think twice before carrying out stupid acts on the road. I once accelerated past another car within speed limit, but car was loud and I was expecting a thumbs up when she pulled next to me to ask me to roll down the window. She just said smile asshole you are on camera.

The lady then tried to followed me home. I stopped a few blocks away after I noticed she was following. She was a middle Eastern lady and immediately she started cursing in front of her boy and said you need to go back to your country. Kinda ironic as I am US citizen and this is my country.

Not a good example for her son. If the kid was not present, I would not had been so nice. I waited there with her until police showed up. First thing police said was why didn't you just ditch her, you can easily do it with your car? I just said there are crazy people out there, last thing I want to do it put my family in danger. After that I just never want deal with 2 sides of story scenario. Having dash cam, you can drive with a lot more security.

After that incident I no longer drive without a dash cam

Wow, who called the Police, her or you?

As much as anything I want it in case of accidents and/or road rage. I get sucked into these Youtube "bad driver/road rage" videos, and some of behavior out there is truly scary.

Another post today talks about hardwiring a radar detector into the wiring of the rear view mirror.

That sounds like a great approach for dashcams, too, since I imagine it would power up and down with the ignition.

which dash cam(s) do you run, make and model if you have the info handy. also you are 100% correct about people not knowing the behind the scene work to have nice things. I have a lot of competition that hates on me because i have nice stuff and i'm only 28, but I bust my ass working 100hrs a week or better and don't have an alcohol or drug or gambling problem and charge my customers enough to have high profit margins to have nice stuff.... not just enough to pay my living expenses and get by like a lot them do....

Not very tidy but some advice

I'm a new dash cam addict, so only on my third one. Because the others were junky - started with a China import, then had a Megellan dashcam/GPS combo, on which the screen quit taking input. Currently have a Garmin Nuvicam. Not tidy at all, more like a brick, but at least the quality is good. For my 08 QP I'll be watching this thread for something tidy myself. But it's a waste of time to get cheapo stuff. Garmin makes a couple stand-alone cams like the 35, but they don't have sound.

She did, police did not want to come, but she kept on trying. She did calm herself down and acted normal when police finally came. I told police officer to hear her side of story first then come to me. Kinda funny when officer come to hear my side of story and said "yes she did said you should go back to your country. I have to at least pretend taking this seriously or she will not leave".

Sometimes people either have a bad day or are already a ticking bomb waiting to explode. Be safe out there.

I have 3 different brands. Panasonic, Blaupunkt, and Uniden. As far as model, I would have to check. I even have a 4th dash cam by sharp image that has front and back camera, but resolution too low for it to be useful. All of them record sound as well.

please let me know the model numbers of your favorite one, because I had a 3300 dollar accident from someone swerving into my lane on two lane road and their mirror took out the mirror of my truck which is pearl white and the mirror is power telescoping, power folding, turn signal, heated, it blew the mirror to pieces, scratched the glass, and chipped the paint on the drivers side b pillar on both doors in 10x10" area, and a dash cam would have caught all this on video and i would have taken them to court vs paying out of pocket... but without any proof it's he said vs. she said, the guy even admitted he swerved into my lane after i went and hunted him down because he didn't stop... but he is well known in this town for screwing people out of money by doing shoddy landscape work and goes to court all the time... but with a dash cam he would have trouble getting out of paying. he even told me, can you prove that it was my fault? if not go kick rocks...
