Hello Forum members.

I am a new (4 months into it) proud owner of a 2013 Maserati MC convertible in sofisticato (i think thats how you spell it) blue. so far loving it. my maz came with 22in black Velos custom rims in the rear and 21 inch ones in the front. in fact if you go to the Velos wheel site and go under maserati you will see the almost identical car as the model i have... anyway...im so upset....i got stuck in a residential area that had HUGE speed bumps...its so low to the ground that it felt like (and it sounded like) i just ripped / gashed multiple tears in the underbelly of the car.... nothing leaking it seems from under but is there anything i should be watching out for??? man...so upset...

Congrats and welcome to the forum, sounds like you've had a bit of bad luck for sure. I would honestly recommend you have it taken a look at while on a lift. If you do need to file an insurance claim for any real damage, you don't want to put it off. Hopefully you'll be fine and the damage is only cosmetic under the car but you get the idea, just make sure she really is OK.

Best Regards,

As someone who has owned multiple lowered cars over the years, I can tell you it's generally not a problem. See if there are any leaks after you park your car overnight, and if you're still unsure just take it to any mechanic and have them jack up the car and take a look.

As a precaution do you hit the speed bumps/low areas head on or do you turn you car diagonally. It's something you should always do to prevent messing up your splash pans, valances and underbelly. If not maybe start practicing it. It's going to help you in the long run.

The super long wheel base of this car doesnt help either. Take them all diagonally AND stiffen up the skyhook so you don't get so much shock compression on the way down.

This is part of the reason that when we design a lowering option for the Maserati GT / QP with our Sport Springs or Coilovers, we actually lower the rear a bit more than in the front. Not only does it help balance it out well but it also helps to bring the nose up a bit at the very front for clearance.

As Craig mentioned turning your wheels a bit just before approach or changing your line to be more of a diagonal makes a good bit of difference. You also just learn to slow down a bit more and crawl over the bump. You may already know all of this but it never hurts to say it for others that may be reading.

If you find that you're having this problem often, we can also offer Sport Coilovers with an option to raise the front height at low speeds for added clearance.

As to the car, if you're not having any major trouble, it's probably fine but I'd still recommend to have it looked at for such a new car.

Best Regards,

It has always bemused me why Ferrari and Maserati don't have the raise suspension button like the lambs do.

you must be driving in France. they love these huge bumps that destroy cars. They also like hard raised edged in the middle of the country roads going thru small towns to take down your rims at night.
Over there a bump must either kill your suspension or take out the oil pan or it is not a speed bump.
if you complain they will send you on a road full of round about too...
