I received my SQ4 a few weeks ago and like it, except for one issue: there is an annoying buzzing noise coming from the instrument cluster when I hit the accelerator. It's most noticeable at slow speeds when things are quiet and I push the accelerator lightly around 2-3K rpm. I brought it to the dealer twice and the technician who went on the test drive with me said, yes, that's an annoying noise. The response I received after the service was that this is normal noise from the injectors and that all Ghiblis do that. I did not hear the noise on any of the test drives I took. Has anybody else had an issue with that and looked into it?

Just for background, I have driven Maseratis for nine years and also drive an F430 so I am very used to the idiosyncrasies of these cars but this one seems pretty bad.

Honestly, that is a totally unacceptable response from your dealer. Any high end dealer would, at minimum, prove to you that this sort of poor engineering (if that is truly the case) were indeed a feature of every car in the model range. Have they got any other Ghiblis coming in? If so then they should make an appointment with you to demonstrate.

I had a concern about steering feel on my QP a few years ago and my dealer brought a car from the sales stock so we could test drive it. I was entirely happy after that.

We expect bugs from the first batch of new cars, but the Maserati brand and it's dealers need to be ready to bend over backwards to put these right.

Out of interest, does the car have to be in motion to recreate the buzzing or can this be done at standstill by upping the revs?

Thank you mowlas. It also happens at standstill. It seems to be more pronounced when the car is warmed up and in (slow) motion but that may just be my perception because of other noises.

I would be very interested in hearing from other Ghibli owners if they have the same problem.

lexa, I can tell you I have had my Ghibli for a couple of months now and although I have had a couple of minor issues with the instrumentation and/or controls my car does not have any buzzing what so ever coming from the instrument panel nor anywhere else inside the cabin.

I've had mine since Dec but mine is not the SQ4, I have the RWD and it happens to me around 1500-2000 RPM. Supposedly this has to do with the wastegate design. I just accepted as being a year one issue but it is pretty annoying and embarrasing.

Yes, I have been having this same prob as you have described. Dealership suggesting it is the high-pressure fuel pump. I'm going to put a sound scope on it to see if I can determine exactly where the noise is coming from. Do you have any updated info yourself on what the noise is and a resolution?

Any buzzing noises I've ever had in any car were due to some small item not being secured. I have a Porsche Cayman that would make a thumping noise when going over any kind of irregular surface - it was the rear hatch -took the dealer some time to find it. Dealers don't like to spend time looking for minor faults and, in my experience, will try to talk the owner into accepting the problem as "normal" Don't give in.

I also have the buzzing/ticking noise that increases with RPM. It is most pronounced on the right engine side, lower down. Took the 2014 Ghibli to dealer for campaign fixes. They said the noise is from the high pressure fuel pump, and it is normal! Ziptie4512 above said the same thing. This sound can seem like it comes from the instrument cluster, but it really comes from the engine right side (maybe fuel pump). It certainly is louder with the hood up. The sound is not a $90,000 car sound!!

If this is "normal" than all 2014's should make the same noise. Maybe the sound level increases with age since my car has 7,000 miles.

Hopefully this can be solved by a campaign.

Hi Bendbiker,

Could you please PM me with your VIN#, contact information, and the name of the dealership that you have been working with so that I can look into your concern a little further?

In defense of the shop (dealer or indy)it is REALLY hard to sell five or ten hours labor for "tightening a screw." It may actually take that long to find the loose offender, but nobody wants to pay $1000 for adjusting a clip or whatever minor issue is causing the noise. Yes you want it gone, but who's paying for the labor and at what price?
