I was wondering if the Gransport engine has a flat plane crank like Ferraris or a 90 degree one.

How caome it's not the same as a Ferrari? I didn't find the 430 engine too harsh or anything, so what gives?

Other reason....
Maserati is a luxury brand and the flat plane crank lends itself to engine vibration whereas the 90 degree crank does not. The flat plane crank provides more horsepower because the engine can breath deeper and the F430 can get away with the vibration because of the way the engine is mounted and it is behind the driver and away from the steering, etc...

Yes it is in disregard of the vibration issue...
If you look back at the article "Made in Maranello" Automobile Magazine in 3/2008 they discuss all of these issues, the Alfa, Maserati and Ferrari, the different intakes, exhaust, bore, stroke, everything and the fact it's all the same block, etc.

Also another question, does the GS have a "flat bottom" (fond plat) i.e. completely covered to improve downforce.

Flat plane cranks are tricky to balance.
So it's usually done in higher performance cars when sale price is higher.
One benefit is the the exhaust pulses are so smooth that it only needs about 50% of the muffler silencing. This is why the muffler on the 430 is so much smaller than that on the 360.
And Ferrari needs a gimmick on the 430's etc that are not needed on the Maserati's!
