So I'll be getting a post 2007 automatic. What other options are a must? I struggle as it is with parking, does anybody winter drive their car? I've driven XJR jags and Lexus LS in the snow and on good tyres it was fine. I have a cayenne now, and as different as the two are. My replacement will me another cayenne or the QP. How savage are these cars for maintenance? How true are the rumours? How do they compare, if anybody knows to the v10 Audi s6?

Welcome aboard Adrian!

I live in the South, so no real advice on driving in snow as a daily driver, others can chime in. I presume with good tires it would be like driving the XJR in snow, with 100ish less horses. I presume the S6(Gallardo) engine with quattro would have the edge over a QP when it comes to snow. This car I did consider, but IMO the body style is outdated from 2004.

Using the Google search function you will find multiple posts here around cost of ownership and maintenance.

My recommendation would be to also read up on the mods and factor those into the cost of ownership. You may be happy driving it stock, but soon you will find out the potential of these cars the mods unleash.

- Get a PPI done.
- See if you have access to service history.
- For the MK 2007, get a Sport GT Automatica. Nothing against the Duo, Auto/ZF will save you on clutch replacement expense.
- Ensure that the rear tie rods recall has been completed.
- Don't skip the scheduled maintenance.
- Have access to a few options for service including some indy, for a daily drive change the oil every 5-6K miles.
- Get an Interstate battery installed that can support a tender, if you aren't going to drive it for a while or have a short commute like me, use a battery tender.

Mods to consider...

Formula Dynamics: High Air Flow Filter, DBW & ECM.
Exhaust: Larini X-pipe, Tubi/Larini Mufflers.

Keep us posted. This car is a lot of fun! Get ready to attract attention, mostly of admiration.

Cheers.

Atlantan, thank you kindly for the informative post! I'm less worried about cost than repair frequency (Assuming proper maintenance). I can believe that the engine is bulletproof if maintained? I have the ZF in my cayenne, and love it. I enjoy rear wheel drive with a quality set of winter tyres, nokian and continental are the top in my experience. I am also worried about will this car fall apart in the winter? It will be stored inside while I'm at home, but outside at work and Id like to hold onto the car for 5 to 6 years. Does this sound foolish?

The Qporte uses galvanized steel and the same mechanicals/electronics (ZF, Bosch, etc.) that everyone else specifies. I have owned my 2002 Maser coupe, and it did not break down faster or more frequently than any other Merc/Audi/Porsche. The only thing with those cars is the delicate interiors. Sticky buttons, glove-thin leather, and brittle plastics are an annoyance. I think it is a tax...... for such sheer beauty!
:)

AdrianL,

Welcome to the forum! There's a lot of stuff for potential QP buyers on this forum. Like what Atlantan stated you can Google most of this info. Also find one of the forum members named Mowlas. He has a list of things to watch out/look for with pre-owned QPs.
I live in New England and my QP stays warm inside my garage during winter :D
I'm sure getting a set of great snow tires will make the Quattroporte a winter warrior.

I believe this is the post by Mowlas regarding items to look out for.

Cheers

I've had my QP for a little over 3 years now here in manitoba canada. Didn't drive it this winter but have in previous winters and with good snow tires this car will go anywhere. I've gotten caught in 2 major snow storms with it and the car handled amazing. I was dodging SUV's hitting the ditch and I just kept on trucking along. I've had to do nothing to the car other than regular maintenance. Oh and I have an 06 with duoselect transmission! Just make sure to drive lots and you should be very happy with her reliability.
