i have a 2014 maserati ghibli, completely redid the timing chain, have no idea what this sound is or what's making it, i just know the car won't start lol, any help is much appreciated!
guessing it's the valves? No compression, timing problems.
Well it's likely going to be something like that. Spinning way too fast. Although there's a slim possibility the starter is just spinning and not turning the engine at all...guessing it's the valves?
just confused alittle lol, the engine isn't shaking or anything like normal if you know what i'm trying to get at, usually there's alittle shaking or vibration to it or alittle rumble but nothingWell it's likely going to be something like that. timing was redone on it, i made sure it was right before i put everything back together, i did look into a bad starter like you said and it shows bad starters turning over just not cranking the engine and it makes the same noise so i think im gonna replace the starter and go from there, before i tear into the engine againWell it's certainly being turned over. All I can suggest is you have no compression. Perhaps got the timing reversed?

TBH, yes I have Maserati certifications, but having certifications only means I attended Maserati classes. Did I learn anything, that is the question. If one is looking for an expert, I would look to Jason. He has 4 times the experience working with European vehicle than I doTrust in MaseratiByChance. He is one of the resident certified Maserati techs on the forum.

no compression at allI would test engine compression first.
it was not running at all before, the engine would shake but the timing guides were messed up and broken and chain was way offWas there any compression before the timing repair or was it running? If so, you need to correct timing.
cylinder 1- 0 psiYou have a mess on your hands, sorry to say. I think the next step would be to check for cylinder leakage. You need compressed air and a gauge for the test.
what's a tbc checkI think your valve timing is off. Can you do a basic TDC check? To lose (effectively) all compression on all cylinders would indicate the engine bores are totally hosed, the pistons are not actually moving or the valves are open. IMHO

Top dead centre. Get a piston to top dead centre on compression stroke. Manually confirm the valves are closed. Or close to. I mean, it may not be possible with variable timing, but I'd have thought it would at least be closewhat's a tbc check
