Out for a drive last night. As I was making a legal left turn, an electric bike rider turned right in front of me. Being the Maserati is so low he went over the hood and into the Windsheild.
Minor injuries for him. He was cited as being at fault, But know its ten days get the windshield replaced. Then trying to find a shop that will work on a Maserati. The damage to the nose is minor but the shops don't care. If I can get the insurance to just give me the check I can fix the damage. We will see what happens.
I still love my Maserati.

He was in his mid 50’s so I was assuming that if he does own a home it would be home owners insurance. My insurance deductible is $500 so that would be all I would be out.
A friend of ours was at the local pub, (our town of Star is pretty small) and people that drove by the accident were saying that because I was driving a Maserati that a must have been speeding and at fault. Small minds are everywhere. One thing for sure the guy that went over my hood and hit the windshield will be pretty sore for a couple days.

That’s “painful” to see, but definitely glad you’re ok 👍. Metal and glass is easily fixable, flesh and bones..not so much.. As for the small minded people who assume Maserati drivers are no doubt speeding all the time ..ugh, they should be cited for waste of oxygen consumption .

Doubtful if any states here require insurance for E-bikes, which is puzzling considering how fast those can go and there are some pretty large and heavy bike models as well...the combo can be lethal . Homeowners insurance would not cover that , it’s excluded just like automobiles are unless the accident happens on the homeowner’s property. His auto policy might cover it if he scheduled the bike on that policy. But your car insurance policy will pay and if they think it’s worth going after him / his assets to recover what they paid you, they’ll seek to recover their loss .

post edit : looks like there are only 3 states which mandate insurance ( link below ) and it depends on the bike classification ..

Just got a email from his home owners ins. And yes no coverage. I talked with the gentleman on the e-bike and he will reimburse me for my deductible. He knows that he was at fault. Turns out that he is friends with my Brother. So no hard feelings. I'm just a little pissed that the GT will be out of commission for awhile.

I applaud you for your patience and understanding of the situation.
Not trying to be mean spirited, just curious regarding cultural differences. Here in the states if I crashed into someone with my e-bike, the owner would not want to file a claim against their insurance as their rates would increase. Filing lawsuits is a national pastime and I would have surely been threatened by a lawyer shortly.

Just had the windshield replaced with a original Maserati windshield. Man it was great to just drive the GT again. Our local British car shop came by my house to give an estimate on the body damage. He saw some damage that I missed. He is also going to do a few other areas to make the GT perfect. While it is in his shop I am going to have him go thru the suspension. I think the bushings are shot. It’s only money, I do a lot of my own maintenance on my five cars, because I usually enjoy doing it. But I’m getting older and let someone else do what they do best. I’ll just have to drive the Jaguar.

Regarding this : “ Just had the windshield replaced with a original Maserati windshield “

I’ve had the windshields replaced twice, the last one was about 4 years ago. Both times I advised the shop and the insurance company that I will not accept anything but the OE windshield as it will devalue the car if anything else is used. And both times I was told that it’s not a problem because there are no aftermarket windshields available for the Granturismo so even If I wanted to use another one because it may be cheaper, there is no choice. I wonder if since then , after market windshields are now available... 🤔 not that anyone would chose to get one of those..
What I was surprised to hear , was the insurance company agreeing to pay the full labor cost of the shop I chose , which was a high end sports cars and super cars body shop, at about 4 X the price that Safelight would charge which seems to be the choice all insurance companies use and “push you“ into using unless you can make a compelling case as to why you don’t want to use them ..
