Hello everyone,
I’m facing an issue with my 2016 Maserati GranCabrio MC and could really use some advice from those who may have encountered a similar problem. I’ve spent a lot of time and money trying to diagnose this, but still haven’t found a solution.
Here’s what’s happening: When I start the car and drive, everything works normally for about 20 minutes. Then I get a “Check Suspension” warning message, and the suspension becomes extremely stiff (much harder than the normal setting). If I turn the car off for 10-15 minutes and restart, the problem goes away temporarily, but returns after another 20 minutes of driving. This cycle keeps repeating.
The dealership initially said the issue was with the rear right Skyhook shock absorber and replaced it, but the problem persists. Now they want me to order new Right wheel acceleration sensor and Vertical acceleration sensors, suggesting those could be the cause. But I’m losing confidence in their diagnosis and don’t want to keep replacing parts unnecessarily.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have ideas on how to resolve this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m at a loss for what to try next.
Thanks in advance for any help!

The only issue I have had in 6 summers with my GTS was when near new it had to have one of the Skyhook suspension sensors ?on top? replaced under warranty. It was ~a $315 part. Your scenario is EXACTLY what I experienced. It was not a shock it was a sensor. They misdiagnosed and overcharged you. I am 95% certain of this. It was a small part you could hols in your hand. When Skyhook malfunctions, it defaults to sport. I know this with 100% certainty. They did the repair beckwards. Start testing the sensors, btw, a known minor issue.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It’s incredibly helpful.
Do you mean the same sensor the dealership suggested - the Right wheel acceleration sensor or Vertical acceleration sensor? Or was it a different Skyhook sensor?
Could you provide more details about its exact location? Was it near the shock absorber?
Thanks again for your help!

I had a similar suspension error showing the amber shock absorber icon on the dash with my 2016 Sport. The cause was a wheel speed sensor. Replaced by the dealer and no further problem.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s very helpful.
Was it specifically the wheel speed sensor that caused the issue? Did you have any symptoms similar to mine, like the suspension becoming very stiff after about 20 minutes of driving?
Do you mean this sensor?

I think it's this sensor...check the code with a scanner...it will tell you. I've had to replace my front RT 3x's in the last 4 years...2013 MC.
It sits on the bottom of the steering knuckle on the front. Easy to replace...

The dealer just told me it was a wheel speed sensor. I don't know which wheel or details but it was not expensive as I remember.

Make them put the other shock back on IMHO

Guys, thank you all for your responses. They’ve been incredibly helpful.
Following your advice, I ordered the RH wheel vertical acceleration sensor, and the service center replaced it. Unfortunately, the problem persists.
Now the service center is suggesting replacing the sensor on the other side as well. Here’s what the computer is showing:

I’d really appreciate your advice. Does it make sense to replace the second sensor, or should I be looking into other potential issues? Is there anything else you’d recommend checking before proceeding with another sensor replacement?
I’m concerned about continuing to replace parts without solving the underlying problem. Any insights or experiences you can share would be extremely valuable.
Thanks again for all your help!
