It's been nice the last couple days. Took the QP6 out for a little drive and noticed the compressor was on the entire time. Heat was on without the defrost option. No ac button either. I know with the defrost on the compressor will turn on to get the humidity out but it wasn't on. Anyone with any input on this would be appreciated. Not a huge deal but just wondering why it would be on without the ac being on? Not sure if this is how maserati programmed these for comfort.
It shouldn't be on unless the A/C button is pressed...Generally when you go to the defrost section it will automatically switch on the A/C, but you'll see the LED light up...Are you sure it is on as that would be odd..Grab the A/C pipes near the LH front shock mount and see if one feels hot or warm...Jason
Yes it is definitely on. When I turn the heat on I can hear the compressor engage and the engine idles down a bit, not much but the usual when it puts the load on the pulley system. Not sure if it's a bad relay or if the car just thinks the defrost is on. Honestly not to sure where to go with this. Relays? Switch for heat and cold? Everything works fine. Heat is good. Cold is good. No shorts anywhere. Thinking of just pulling the relay and switching with another similar. That's all I got lol. Like I said its not a huge deal seeing as it's not causing issues im just really curious as to why it's doing this.
Thanks bud. I will try to swap it in a couple weeks and see if it does anything. I'm leanong more towards a switch problem but maybe I'll get lucky with the relay
It a problem I’ve had on my QP6 but had similar on my 2007 Cayman, cause by the front mounted ac condenser fan being restricted and not spinning. This fools the system into thinking it needs the compressor running.
Worth a look
