07 QP - Trunk Liner (Cable Guide Cover?) Broken Apart, Heat Damage

My 07 QP spent its life in Florida and before being sold to me it must have been parked outside in the heat for an extended period of time. The hard plastic cover that lines the outside of the trunk opening is all cracked up and falling apart.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is there any functional (possibly sealing?) purpose to these pieces or are they purely cosmetic?

Thanks Jason.

I'm going to go ahead and take that as a clean it out, and if I feel like blowing $400 some day on new plastic, put it back in, but no harm being done in the meantime.

Mine is completely disintegrated. The piece is cheap to replace but not easy to install. It has nothing to do with sealing. Mine is removed and I have no leakage and a ton of aftermarket electronics in the trunk - sub, amps, etc.
