Knocking at rear on the right

I bought my 04 coupe in January 07 from a Maserati dealer here in Germany with 8.500 km.
Since then (now 16.000 km) the car makes a - more or less loud - knock at the rear on the right when driving slowly over bumps. It seems to be louder after cold start and with a loaded trunk. It sounds as if something is slightly knocking against the body somewhere.
I have been twice at the dealer, they couldn't fix it up to now.

Did anyone have something similar or has any idea??

Thanks
Bert

Hi, Bert. It could be something in the spare tire well, or the cover for the spare itself. Also check that the battery is secured.

By the way, I'm jealous of you having your Maserati in Germany. I traveled to Germany quite often when I worked for SAP and frequently wished I had my Coupe with me on this trips!!!

Modes of transport/enjoyment/torture:

2009 Audi S5
2003 Coupe CC (gone but not forgotten)
2006 Lexus IS250 AWD (gone but forgotten)
Intense Spider 29er
Santa Cruz Nomad
Cannondale Cyclocross Disc

Sounds like suspension joints - they go regularly, I've had 4 changed on my 2 cars with low miles. Well known issue to my dealer

We had a customer whose GranSport did this as well, and to fix it we removed the rear panel in the trunk, adjusted the fuel tank straps, and added some insulation between the straps and the fuel tank. The sound our customer was getting sounded like a spring on a perch, and had a little bit of reverberation as it quieted after the initial bang. They heard the sound driving over speed bumps, or occasionally on an egress into a driveway.

If that sounds the same at all, it may be an avenue to explore, but only after they decide its not related to the bushings for sure. There is another thread on the forums related to the bushings:

Thanks a lot for the comments, I'll have another discussion with my dealer!

By the way, Maserati driving here in Germany really is fun, especially if you live in a region, where stop and go is not the normal situation on the autobahn...

At the dealer they checked the suspension again and suspected the shock absorbers (skyhook). They ordered new ones (delivery problems caused a long delay), and changed them last week (warranty).

At the moment I have the impression that the sound has gone, let's hope that it doesn't come back!

Another thought is to check your battery mount, it's in the trunk on the passenger side.
