My first Maserati Qp 2008

I have a 2008 Qp when I start it taps for a second & stop so I thought maybe my timing variators was going bad but it don’t do it every time I start the car. It also ride very rough sometimes as if it has bad gas in & want to cut off. Can someone please tell me what this possibly could be. I took the car to dealer & they said they couldn’t figure out the problem because the car wasn’t making noise at the time & the engine check determined the engine was strong.

If a dealer could not determine the issue, all we can do on the internet is guess....any updates on your car to report?

Any chance the noise is coming from the exhaust pipes? When you do a hard rev after driving for a bit does any dust or smoke come out of the tailpipes? The reason we ask is simply because the catalytic converters could be going out and you may be hearing little pieces of broken cat tapping and tinging inside the pipes at lower revs until they fall back to the bottom of the pipe, then the noise would disappear. As you rev up a bit and may blow them out. it's really hard to say without more information. In these cases over the web, it's all speculation, best to see a qualified repair shop but feel free to reach out if you need help or replacement cats, we have some great options.
