Someone on Ferrarichat posted a link with Maserati 4200 production numbers. The Spyder is alot rarer than the coupe. Also Spyder 6 speed GT's are super rare as many have said with only 574 being made, along with GranSport Spyder Cambiocorsa's with 472 being made. Variant special editions are the rarest. Almost 14,000 4200 were made in total with almost 9000 being coupes. I would guess over 75% of the Spyders were sent to North America based on dealer numbers.
Funny thing I noticed for perspective. The 4200 is rarer than the Ferrari 360 and 430!!
This is always something that surprises many people... Quite a few of the F360 / F430 cars were made but all in all, not too many of the modern Maserati's in the world!. Of course that is changing soon with the new Ghibli. However several Maserati's including the coupe and quite rare comparatively.
More detailed production info.
I emailed MaseratiNA a couple of months ago and received this.
I asked for:
How many Coupe GT's were imported to the U.S? (and by year if possible)
How many in Rosso Bologna
Any additional breakdown of options per year etc.
I received the following...sorry about the format, when I cut and pasted it changed the layout. My fellow Maseratilife members should be able to figure it out.
Thank you for contacting Maserati North America, Inc.
I actually have that information for you as someone requested it just the other day.
These are USA numbers and Global sales numbers:

I nicely asked them to try again ( more specific info ) as this was still pretty broad.
I also pointed out that a Gran Tourismo isn't the Coupe GT, but rather a completely different model.
Those numbers are Calendar year I'm sure, not model year, thus some CC's and GT's sold in 2007.
This was the follow up response...Hallelujah!
I didn't get all the detail I wanted but I did find out just how rare our car is. 1 of 13 for 2002-2006 in Rosso Bologna (GT)!
quote:
I have one of our analysts attempting to get you more information from the factory in Italy. He was able to come up with a bit more information on his own and it is:
"About a 10% take rate on Manual transmission for the total Coupe / Duo Select variants (pretty rare!)
About 5% Coupe GTs in the USA were finished in Rosso Bologna (1 of 13). I do not have the global number."
Kind regards, and I will update when I have more to tell you! Thank you for your patience.
end quote.
So when I add up the numbers, I get 2324 imported to the U.S.
They mention the 10% take rate... but that was probably just among Coupes...PRIOR to 2005 when the Gransports were introduced. So since they didn't break down the split of 05 and 06 Coupe GT's, Coupe CC'c, and Gransport's it's still a little vague.
In addition, if you own a Gransport Spyder, was that then put in the Spyder numbers or the Gransport?
The numbers for our car jibe BTW. 10% of 2324 would be (around) 232
5% of that would be 11.6 produced (call it 13)
13 produced...WOW.
Maybe, why I've NEVER seen another for sale, in pics, etc in the last 3 1/2 years! We bought ours 2 1/2 years ago.
That 232 number, is, once again probably high.
They gave me the 13 number. Most of everything else is percentages. I don't follow why they have to be so secretive.
Interesting stuff. I think we are getting a good picture now. These are pretty rare cars with the 6 speed manuals being really rare. Safe to say all manuals are not Gransports as they were all CC's. I guess the one to get is the Gransport if you want a CC. If you want a manual the 2005 GT's were the most updated, but I like the early cars looks, with the Spyder GT looking the best of them all in my opinion followed closely by the Gransport Spyder. Never liked the side windows on the coupe very much.
Great info! Thank you for sharing. I have a mint '02 Spyder 6 speed GT. Always wondered how many were made and sold in North America. I think I will shoot MaseratiNA an e-mail.
I read somewhere in this forum that the European models of the Coupe CC serial numbers are odd numbers and north american models are even numbers (wish I could find the thread). Can somebody confirm this? The reason I'm wondering is that I am looking for a 2005-2006 Coupe CC in the US to bring up to Canada. I can import the US models but not the European models that have been brought over to US and modified (referred to as "Gray Market") to meet US regulations. I really don't want to buy something to find out that it is gray market and not allowed into Canada.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
2manytoys:all you have to do if forward the vin number to Maserati North America and they will tell you if car you are considering is a us car or not. you will need a letter from Maserati that there are no open recalls on the car you are importing into Canada. done it been there.
with the present exchange rate and 6.1% import duty into Canada I cannot believe you are considering importing a car from the states. If you do buy a gransport coupe.
2005-2007 GranSport Contemporary Classic M138ABC M138P/F136RB (part of GranSport numbers)
2006 GranSport MC Victory Coupe M138ABC M138P/F136RB (181)
As you can see the special editions and Gransport Spyder are the rarest followed by the 6 Speed manuals(GT means manual. If you have a cambiocorsa it is not a GT or a true manual) . Coupes out number Spyders by well over double. Also 3200's were all coupes, and production was just under 5000.
Nice website update...These cars will be worth something someday, so keeping track of production numbers is important. I still think people should look at GT 6 speed manuals first as the CC's are high clutch maintenance. Average life of a GT clutch is 3 times that of a CC, something to think about. If it is a highly desirable Gran Sport you have to get a CC, but it has updated software. All these cars including the CC's are a bargain, just plan on clutch changes on the CC every 25,000-35,000 miles. Early GT's will need a new clutch pump as the early pumps were manufactured with a defect.
I have a 2002 Spyder GT manual, Canadian spec car, and love it. So much so, I want to export it to Europe and enjoy there.
BUT I need a Europe Certificate of Conformance to do so. Can anyone help with an email address contact at Maserati?
I did call their customer service who said I should ask my dealer, who then said to contact Maserati!
Any help with where to turn to, or who and how to contact would be appreciated. Thanks Oliver
This thread has some information about how tricky it can be to import a car. You should try Maserati N.A. again. I doubt the dealers will care to help unless you know them. Your best bet is to sell your car and buy a Euro model without the ugly side marker lights.
This may be a long shot but worth a try. I have dealt with similar questions by contacting Dick Merritt at US DOT. He may be able to put you in touch with his CA MOT counterpart.
I forget how I originally came across his contact info but I called him and he answered the phone - Imagine my surprise at that! Not only is he very knowledgeable in this area but he's a great guy to talk to. We were on the phone for a 1/2 hour. Recently I called him on importing a Gulf spec car from Dubai to the US (no can do).
I would not be surprised if he could answer your question or possibly put you in touch with someone at CA MOT:
U.S. Department of Transportation
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
Enforcement
Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance
Contact Name: Richard Merritt (may find him in directory as Dick Merritt)

From what I have read and seen they made between 3900 and 4400 Spyder's(several types may be double counted on the chart), all types including special editions and GranSports. 3200 2004 Spyder's is not even close to a good number. I would say 3200 might even be higher than the total Maserati 4200's imported to North America from 2002-2007 including Spyder's and Coupe's.
Greenville SC, came as a trade offer for my daily driven Corvette and I'm in love! Heater core is now bypassed, audio system revamped, just waiting on rear upper control arms to land and haven't yet tackled a lack of blower response from the hvac(fuses look good).
*edit: the silencers were replaced with straight pipes, all else stock, it sounds as raw as any tubi/FD examples I've found online
Found the red wire with white stripe, to no avail. The connector feels tight and does not appear melted/warped. Do we know if it is a hot lead, should it show 12v+? If so I'll grab the 'meter tomorrow and check for power but I'm thinking it is ok. Also tried a new 30amp fuse in position 5 just in case.
