Personally I'd prefer beaded. The initial challenge is going to be getting an original to you. Can you give me ball park prices so I can factor in the purchase (ouch) of an extra pair?

Cheers!

Hello Guys,

I will probably experiment a few different options before making a choice. As far as how much a set would cost its a bit hard to know right now as I haven't completed the process. Making just one set for selling isn't very cost effective, making 5-20 is. Some quick fuzzy math tells me that if we keep the lot to 5-20 sets the price would be somewhere between $300-400 per set. Not bad considering what some of the other options out there cost and that these would be a very limited run of ultra high quality aerospace grade aluminum pieces. I have no idea what the rules on this forum are as far as group buys vs sales etc. I have no intention of turning this into a business, just contemplating making a limited amount of high quality custom pieces for a few that may be interested. If this violates the forum rules in anyway please let me know and I will stop (I will still document my personal build )

Please let me know your thoughts on this, maybe we can make a short list of who's interested in GS vs GT paddles so I can get an idea of how many I should make when I begin working on my own.

Cheers!

PS. forgot to mention that if there is enough interest on GT paddles I could be persuaded to source a paddle to model after. Either that or someone with an extra one can lend me one which I promise to return (I would prefer this).

As far as I know, not for profit group buys and this kind of thing are absolutely fine. Sure the admins will slap me if required.

That kind of cost certainly seems very reasonable so in the interest of moving things on:

1) CatmanV2: GT Glass Bead

Add your names as an expression of interest

Well then, I guess we should get a couple lists going (one for 4200/GS and one for GT's). As soon as we get to at least 5 people that are in for each type I will begin working on sourcing material/tooling etc. Feel free to respond to this thread and edit the list if you want in. Cheers!

Sor far we have the following:

4200 Coupe GT/CC/GS:
1) Me :P
2)

Granturismo:
1) CatmanV2: GT Glass Bead
2)

What do you guys think if I start a new thread for the paddle group buy? That way I can keep this one focused on the modifications to my car, everyone ok with that?

I just had the machine cut the first "blank". Now to give it 3 dimensional features. After that, I'll bend and "finish" the piece. Woot!!!

Cheers!

Here are pics of both blanks as well as a pic after they were both 3d surfaced.

Now they are in the Tumbler for an hour ensuring no sharp edges or burrs remain. After that, they will be drilled, bent and finally glass bead blasted.

Cheers!

Halfway through tumbling process. Now with Up/Down

Now another hour or so of tumbling and then we can move onto drilling/countersinking, bending, a bit more tumbling and finally Glass Bead.

Cheers!

Holes located, drilled and countersunk. Next is bending. I will bend these by hand (using simple angles). If I end up making them again I will make a repeatable set of Dies so that it is exact every time.

Salud!

Both pieces are bent to the correct shape (Now have to make a die that matches the bend plus a certain % to compensate for the elasticity of this particular Aluminum). They are back in the tumbler to smooth out further, then they will be bead blasted to a final finish.
