Brake noise or clutch noise?
My '06 GranSport has just over 7,000 miles on it and has about 70% clutch wear (30% remaining). I had a shop put in FD suspension mods (sways & springs) a few months ago. After they did the install the car handles great but I hear what sounds like a squeak or slight brake squeal intermittently with each wheel revolution. I took it back to the shop and they firsts told me that the parking brake caliper was touching very slightly but that the cable had been extended as far as possible given the suspension mods. They claimed to have fixed it, but I heard it again the next day. When I went back to the shop a second time they told me it was a clutch sound indicating wear, and that they could adjust the clutch to minimize it but that they cannot eliminate it without an expensive bearing replacement that is not really needed until clutch replacement is necessary.
But this sound stays exactly the same, whether the car is in gear or simply coasting slowly in neutral. Also, it disappears when you apply the brakes, reappearing when they are released. Can anyone tell me if the shop is being straight with me on this? Do I have a parking brake issue, or a clutch issue?
