Merak Project

Hi everyone! It's my first post here. I've been surfing around for a while and I just recently picked up an old Merak from a friend of a friend (long story). Car sat inside a garage for years uncovered, which of course resulted in some unnecessary wear to it. Anyways, I decided to make it into a project and try and restore it with help from my local shop.

From what I can find so far, its a 75' Citroen version US model car and seems to have all of the original components to it.

Already started to strip it down.

Not sure what I'll do with it afterwards, but looks to be a fun car.

Some more photos from stripping the car down. It looks like a rust bucket, but it's not all that bad! Sent all the parts to have them powder coated locally and the hardware all redone. I managed to track down some manuals on it as well which should help with the resto. Not sure if I want to keep it originally white or change it to yellow or red.

Are you going to keep it original US-spec or change it towards Euro-spec? I think it will be substantially more attractive - performance-wise and aesthetically, as well as market-wise - if changed to Euro-spec....

I don't think Merak values are nuts, compared to what Merak's competitors back in the 1970s and 1980s fetch nowadays

I'm kind of torn on this issue. I love keeping originality in vehicles..but..I have seen photos of other color Meraks that drive me towards changing the color. Not really sure what I should do.

Does anyone know how many white Meraks were actually made? I hardly find any photos of them online, mostly red and yellow ones.

vin # 66 is like yours. it is in the Maserati Museum at Riverside Calif. I sold a dark red car. beautiful car. i may paint one that color. the standard red does nothing for the car. black is a good color

Started stripping down the exterior to the metal. So far the car is in perfect condition, no damage anywhere, no bodywork or past corrections.

Do you have a projected budget for this restoration?
Just curious as it seems like a big undertaking.

Honestly, I don't really know. I had a great opportunity to pick the car up, and based on all the different Italian vehicles from the 70s era this one really struck me as unique. I've gotten quite far into the restoration already stripping it down to its bare shell and have most of the stuff being powder-coated, plated, re-done and a lot of parts on order. I've actually been enjoying this project a lot. The car has a lot of technology from its era and is built extremely well.

You know how it goes, once you're there you may as well fix this, or fix that, restore this, restore that, so budget wise I don't have a fixed number. I'm not Hopefully doesn't drain the bank too much! Haha!

Thank you all for the messages also offering help, I do appreciate it!

I should have more photos up soon of the progress.
