Default Merak Price?

What is a reasonable price range for a 1974 - 1975 Merak (not SS)?

I am looking at one that is good but not perfect condition.

Thanks

Default HI Gary

Hi Gary,

Unfortunately I am not mechanically capable of taking on a project car. That probably makes me crazy to consider a Merak, but I have found a decent mechanic where this is going (central Florida) and I think I can keep a running car going.

I am intrigued with the SS engine. Is it the European 220 HP version? Do the numbers match the chassis? Where can I find info on the 601 numbered engine? Is the a tray market car?

Thanks,

Steve Kuznicki in Edmonton, Alberta (and Flagler Beach, Florida)

Default Thanks Mark,

HiMark,

I just wrote the seller. Besides condition, I am worried about importing a "Canadian" car to the US, but getting to Winnipeg to check it out is easy from here.

Thanks,

Steve in Edmonton (and Flagler Beach, Fl).

Default Re-Importing to the US

Hello,

I spoke to the owner and I am very tempted to take a trip to see this car.

It originally had a Michigan title and he still has a copy. But, it was legally imported into Canada which means that it must be reimported into the US.

I am not sure that is so easy. Any idea where I would check for the procedure for this?

Steve

Steve,
correction...its a 610 coded engine not 601...
the 610 engine is an SS engine per the Merak/SM
specialist David @ excelsior motors in Tennesee...

and yes, its a numbers matching engine. per
Enrico @ enricomaserati...

Its an US issued car
s/n

engine # 610.006

Amazing the repect and prices Meraks get in Europe but not in the US. Will the US ever catch up to what the Europeans know?

Yes, the price gap seems to be very large indeed. European spec cars in Europe go for about twice as much as US spec cars in the US.

Some of the gap is probably due to the differences between Euro and US specs. US spec cars are arguably less pretty, produce less power, and are heavier and slower than Euro cars, SS or not. Quite many US spec cars have been imported to Europe and they typically go for significantly less than original Euro cars, also those that have been converted - more or less succesfully - to Euro spec.

Some of the gap is however due to segmented markets. The Merak doesn't seem to be on the radar in the US, compared to, for example, 308s of various kinds. Meraks, being much rarer, seem to command higher prices than comparable 308s in many European markets.

Default Gary's Merak

Hi Gary,

Very pretty car (as seen on e-bay) but do you know anyone who could put it back together (for a fee)?

Steve- why don't you just title & plate it in Alberta?

People drive Canadian titled cars in the USA all the time.
