Spacers move the center of the wheel away from the center line of the wheel bearing.

Jeff made good comments.

However, the best spacers are the ones where the wheel bolts go through the spacer into the wheel hub. You need bolts longer by the thickness of the spacer you use.

The other type bolts to the hub and then the wheel bolts go into the spacer. This is definitely not a good choice.

A friend almost destroyed his 348 when the threads in the spacers gave way! Fortunately he was starting from a light at slow speed. He had the 2nd type I mentioned which are less desireable.

I am sure Jeff can guide you on this.

Isn't this the type that Jeff sells? I have a set on the way so I'm watching this topic closely.

I believe that the GS spacers are the bolt-thru type and the GT are the bolt to the hub and then bolt the wheel to the spacer.

I guess jeff needs to weigh in, I didn't watch them install mine but I was under the impression that the GS is both, bult thru front and bolt to rear? which is why the you need the longer bolts for the front

I have a Gran Turismo.

This forum needs to be sub divided into GS, QP, GT. It gets confusing in here.

We use both types of spacers. There isn't an inherent problem with either design provided that they are built correctly and torqued properly to the hub and the wheel. Obviously if your bolts are loose, you're going to have problems with or without spacers.

As a typical rule of thumb you use bolt through up to 20mm and bolt-on for more than 20mm.

Also remember that anytime you've retorqued the wheel bolts and especially when using wheel spacers that you need to re-torque all bolts again within 50 miles. With wheel spacers I do recommend that you retorque everything several times in the beginning to be sure that all the surfaces are flush, all parts are mounted correctly and that the bolts are retorqued and everything has settled.

Best Regards,
-- Jeff

Thank you as always for your explanation. Dumb question no doubt, but I assume then that to retorque the bolt on spacer, you have to take the wheels off to access the spacer bolts? If so, maybe it is easier to not be too aggressive in the spacer width. That way one can use the bolt through rather than the bolt on so you only have to retorque the actual wheel bolts which are exposed, i.e. no hidden bolts to be concerned about.

Are the QP spacers bolt through or again is it a function of the spacer width? If bolt through, how easy is it to swap out the stock bolts? Another dumb question, but are the stock bolts screwed in or pressed in from back side of hub? If pressed in, that doesn't sound like a DIY job, at least for me!

QP Sport,

Retorquing the bolts is not a big problem. You'll torque everything 1st time and drive the car. Then take the wheel off, recheck / retorque the spacer bolts, put on the wheel, torque the wheel bolts, drive the car and provide one last check / retorque to be safe. This is the safest way to get the job done and know that everything is torqued safely.

The design is a function of the width of the spacers ( at least the way we build them ).

Installation is fairly easy, the pieces just bolt together with either design. The spacers are all hub centric and fit together like legos with a perfect fit.

All the bolts screw in to threads from the front, just the same as stock. Nothing is "pressed" in and nothing comes in from the back side.

Installing these takes 5-10 minutes a wheel, very easy.

Best Regards,
-- Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

I don't know what I was thinking when I asked about the bolts. For some reason I was thinking the wheels were attached to the hub by placing over bolts which were part of hub, and then screwing on a nut. Forgot that when I changed tires there was no bolt protruding from hub but that you attach wheel by screwing bolt through the wheel!

I just put on some spacers in the rear today from Formula dynamics on my QP, had them custom turned at 10mm, and they look great. So far, feels great, rides great, looks great. No problem. The quality of the spacers that Jeff is using is definitely definitely more than high enough quality to be OEM or better. So if you guys are looking to try some spacers to complete the look, definitely go with FD products, I noticed with the wider spacers that the car handled a little flatter, which is a great improvement over an already excellent suspension setup on the QP sport gts. Thanks JEFF! And thanks to the guys at UNIVERSAL AUTOSPORT!! (KENT, ANTHONY) Thanks guys!

When you get a chance post some pics. I'm looking to add them myself but Jeff has 15mm & 22mm kits. So I need to decide which one.
