Rotors are fine..... just want to replace my noisy & dusty OEM Pads with a set of Formula Dynamics ceramic pads.
Maserati of Newport Beach will not do it without replacing the Rotors regardless of their condition. Just a money maker for them. Funny.... my car.... rotors good..... normal commuting driving...and would sign a release holding them liable for anything from not changing the rotors....... amazing!!!
Can anyone recommend a shop in Southern Orange County (California) that can do this for me? Not looking for a cheap place or a "Deal". Just want them done right without damaging the interior or exterior in the process.
This is such an easy job, even for the non diy, especially if you're not doing the rotors. My friend and I did the rotors and pads in about 1.5 hours as a total novice without issue. However, if you don't have the time, desire, or real interest in doing it, any decent brake shop can do it, just make sure you provide the pads. It's hard to damage anything and if you want more specifics PM me. There's got to be dozens of good Indy shops in your area.
You're welcome!! And I certainly wasn't tryin to imply I can do a lot myself, I can't, but this is one of those items we could all do and I hate to see the dealers raping people for this service just because they feel we can afford it. I think the only real things to be concerned with are to use the proper lift or jack points, make sure the installer is cognizant that there aren't any scratches on the wheels to start, so when removing the lug nuts they don't get overzealous, and to also not over torque them once finished. I think the factory specs are quite low, around 72 ft/lbs but that they'll have to verify. I would even allow my Tire Kingdom guys to do it just because I know them and they know how particular I am. The whole process for a decent or seasoned tech to replace the pads shouldn't take more than an hour imho. Good luck señor!!
Agreed , any reputable shop ( and there should be plenty of them in Newport Beach, Laguna , Costa Mesa , etc . ) who work on Porsches , Aston Martins, Ferraris , etc who should be able to do this for you without any problem. The only issue is if the car is still under warranty , I've heard that both Ferrari and Maserati are notorious for declining warranty repairs if the problem is even remotely connected to a job performed by anyone other than a dealer ; so if your calipers have some defect or even if there is a suspension component which fails , they'll try to get out of the warranty repair simply because of the pads having been installed by a non-dealer shop. But Porsche will pull the same b.s. ( don't ask me how I know , lol .) so Maserati is not alone in this scam . However, if you're out of warranty , I can't see any other major concerns ..
