Car won't lock

For some reason whenever I try to lock my car it locks and then unlocks immediately after. Has anyone ran into this? It's kind of annoying that I have to worry about the car getting stolen whenever I take it anywhere

I think there's a know issue with sticking lock motors. Other things that may cause something similar are the pins that tell the car the door is shut not switching properly.

Does this happen in the remote, or the key, or both?

Both when I use the remote and the key in the door. Yesterday it kept switching from unlocked to locked by itself until I started the car. Kind of funny actually

Sounds like a sicking motor or mechanism to me. If you're a DIYer you could whip the door cards off, see if there's anything obvious and anything that can be lubricated.

Check the inside door handle and the looking door switch that is above the handle, there is a pin that hold the door handle and the switch in place. i my car the pin was just about out and i could not look the door, after i pushed the pin into place everything worked fine.

sounds like your passenger side door lock assembly needs replacing,

sit in the car with the doors closed and push the remote lock button, observe if your drivers side door switch repsonds and the pasenger switch doesnt, that is a fair sign the pasenger door lock has failed.

until you have it sorted, lock your car by key in the passenger side door, both doors should remain locked that way.

Hi there

I just got 100% same problem as you last Sunday on my car,
What happen on my car is someone adjust the cable for the door handle (inside). Someone tighten my cable, the door handle need little bit free play, apparently its a common problem in UK.
Try to adjust your cable and try to lock and unlock before you put the door trim back on

I am now having a similar problem - started out with the car would lock and then unlock immediately using the remote. After about 10 minutes of fiddling with things yesterday (unlocking and locking via various methods), I was able to get it to lock (and arm the alarm) with the remote. Just tried it again today and now remote won't lock the car at all. I can lock from the inside manually (by locking each door). Can lock the car with the key - first in the passenger door, then in the driver door - and then set the alarm with the remote. When I try to unlock the car, have to turn the key and pull on the door handle at the same time as it wants to keep trying to stay locked. This is going to get annoying quickly. Will search the forum for other similar issues, but any ideas anyone has would be greatly appreciated.....Thought it might be the battery going bad in the remote, but the other key does the same thing.

Exactly same symptoms as you djjazzyjuliff, issue coming from the passenger door I believe. I have tried to dry up the inner part of the door while the window was down, I have removed/reinstalled all relays from passenger's side, no change at all. Still this erratic lock switch on/off when pressing the remote control

One thing I have noticed though is that there is quite some play in the lock switch located just above the door handle...I will try and remove the inner panel of the door in order to see if I can access and tie the cable someone was mentioning in another thread.

The problem is the failure of the solenoid in the lock unit. One of the doors will allow you to lock the car with the key. This will be the unit that needs to be replaced.

It's about $60 plus labour

Ok. So I can lock the driver door with the key so that's the one that needs to be replaced. The passenger door lock I cannot lock with the key. It unlocks itself after I turn the key to lock it. I'll look for the part. Thank you !
