Default SERIOUSLY Seeking a SOLID Biturbo Coupe!!!

I owned an '84 that was amazing, loved the car and sold it in 1992..............I have been looking for the past 4 years for a Biturbo with a solid drivetrain, that does not shake and vibrate, and turbos that react properly, a correct example to take home.............I have flown thousands of miles (Houston, Tampa, Richmond, Dallas, Philly), spent countless hours, as well as thousands of dollars on "non-refundable" deposits trying to find my next BiTurbo..............I'm not a sucker, I would rather walk away, than get a car that the driveline shakes (carrier/pinion/trans output/torque tube/etc), I can tell within a block or two if the car is right,......I am ready to pay cash for the right BiTurbo Coupe. I am looking to MRE the body (I have an entire MRE kit in storage) and mono the paint (see attached pix)....................so............if the driveline is correct, the suspension is not beat, the body is solid and the interior is even fair (Nardi wheel & analog clock are a plus) and of course the price is right for the condition the car is in......call me 24/7 at 607-227-1244 or email @
16ltoy@msn.com

I am a serious buyer and just looking for the right, tight, & correct BiTurbo..........Thanks , Kerry

Would it make sense to import one from Italy?

I believe I went to NYC to possibly buy that car a few weeks ago.......arrived with truck and trailer.............but...........the car had some issues.

Bad masking job when repainted...paint looked great though.

Drivers side electric window mechanism was stripped.

AC was either not working because it was either missing the compressor or was missing the belt...can't recall right now, maybe confused, might have been the air pump!

Turbos did not spool up to the appropriate boost pressures....very BIG issue!!

Rear end pinion seal was leaking.

Carrier bearing on the driveshaft within the torque tube was marginal, therefore causing a bit of driveline shudder and vibration. (probably why pinion leaked & also can cause the output shaft of the transmission to leak). This can be an expensive fix (carrier bearing/u-joints/pinion seal & bearing/transmission rear output seal & bearing/hours of labor) and unfortunately is a very common problem with these cars!!

Suspension was beat..........in need of shocks, maybe springs/ball joints and wheel bearings.

But like I said......may have been a different Biturbo........this one had an updated grill, yellow driving lights and Maserati logos on the front fenders.

The asking price was high ($6500) for what it needed....looks great by the way & 99.99% rust free Ok interior and alot of items were missing from the car (underhood pad/isulation/analog clock on dash, paperwork/service records, some tools, center console parts, etc.) ........owner offered to sell for $5500........but I could not see spending more than $4000, because there was about another $3-$4000 needed to get it right..........

I'll keep looking though.......I have a 2005 Quattroporte ($29000) that has been offered that I am going to arrange a PPI for this next week.......so maybe a Biturbo is NOT in my future.........but they are so nice when sorted......ever onward!!

Again if you have one or know of a great example anywhere in the US or Canada I would appreciate a lead.....Thanks........

Kerry

I know an extremely nice '87 spider, but the owner would want 15K. The car is in great shape, body, interior, and mechanical. the only issue I could see is the car seems to dump boost at 4,000 rpms. (boost controller?). the owner doesn't seem to realize, 'he never drives it that hard, but has always maintained it thouroughly as did the owner before him, ( two owners never redone, looks almost new)

FYI, Biturbo Spyders in good shape do trade at about EUR 15k in Europe, so the US prices quoted above is in the right-ish ballpark.

Kerry
Just get the Quattroporte, drive a "hard bargain" as JFK said on the First Family album (yeah I'm that old) then do the FD DBW and ECM chip, and you'll be set!

Why not? There are literally thousands of excellent Biturbos in Italy. If I remember correctly, it is possible to import a classic car (over 25 years old) in the USA with full EPA/DOT waiver (i.e. no emissions test / crash test compliance, etc.).

This means that as of today (2012), you could import something like a 1987 fuel injected Biturbo Si from Italy, a car that developed 223 HP and had a top speed of 145 mph. This car was FAR better than any of the catalyst-choked, underpowered lumps that made it to the USA in the '80s (at least until the 2.8 liter engine arrived).

The Si has now somewhat of a cult folowing in Italy, and is one of the most sought after of the "classic" Biturbos. However, prices are ridiculously low. Just look on a website like AutoScout24: Il marketplace europeo delle auto usate e nuove and you wil find some really tidy Si coupes for as little as 3,000 Euro.

Shipping will not cost you more than $2,000. I just imported my GS from the USA to Europe, so I have excelent contacts with a good shipping company. If you spot a good Biturbo in northern Italy I may even be able to go and check it out for you.

Very interesting. Thank you for the information. I did not know so many good Biturbos were available in Italy for so little money.

Default MRE kit

I was wondering if you still have the MRE kit and if you though about selling it?

Wow. How exactly does one do that? There are some incredible deals- all around. Can you give more information?
