I recently aquired a 2007 QP Sport. This is my first "performance" vehicle and while I know you can't learn how to drive from a book, I am looking for any suggestions for some titles. In particular, before going out to our local track with an instructor, I wanted to learn more about turning, accelerating, braking, etc. I was also looking for a good book describing any technical aspects to learn more about suspension, engines, tuning etc. so as to understand more about performance sport cars. Are there any "sport cars for dummies" or "the bible of sport cars" etc. worth reading?

I am not sure if these kinds of books exist. Did you do a search on Amazon.com?

The film "Drive to Win" is a video version of a driving school (formula cars). I don't remember if it's Skip Barber or Bill Scott or some other school. It shows both the classroom and on-track sessions. I think it's darned good. Has some commentary by Mario Andretti to give it "star" appeal. Maybe you can find it on amazon or ebay.

There are numerous books on race car and sports car driving techniques. There's a classic book by Piero Taruffi (sp?) with an intro by Juan Manuel Fangio! There are books by Nikki Lauda, Alain Prost, and other great drivers. There are lots. Seek and ye shall find.

While it isn't a technique guide, a great motorsports book is "The Unfair Advantage", by Mark Donohue. Talks about racing, setup, and other aspects of going fast...
