Hi, I seem to sometime get a crunch when shifting my Merak a little too fast or at a high rpm, even when double clutching. I know the Alfa guys say certain gearbox oils seem to work better with their syncro's, (shell spirax hd amongst others is recommended heavily). Apparrently some gear box oils are too slippery and do not let the syncro's slow enough.
Is there any similar recommendation on older Maserati's?
Thanks,
bundas

Actually I don't think they are too bad, but I must be very deliberate in my shifting and rpms. I do tend to double clutch most of the time but still can not hurry my shifts or shift at too high an rpm.
I actually think that I have a too slippery an oil in the transaxle and it does not slow the syncro's down enough and let them do their job. I know that Alfa and Posche owners have similar problems and get good results by using a somewhat "stickier" oil in their cars. also they sometimes use Limited slip oil modifiers.
I di dpost a similar message on the yahoo boards.
Thanks .
